Project Description: Originally built in 1836, Barton Academy served as the first public school in Alabama. The Radcliff Project Team completed the exterior renovations of Barton Academy in 2015 marking the first phase of Barton’s Historic Renovation. The second phase of renovations began in the Summer of 2020 with a goal to have students back in classes at Barton Academy by the Fall of 2021. Under a tight schedule the Radcliff Project Team successfully completed the renovations in July of 2021, work included 65,076 SF of interior renovations including 3 floors of the main building and the cafeteria building. Barton Academy last served students in 1965, Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies opened their doors in August of 2021 serving grades 6 through 9 with curriculum courses focused on global studies, world languages, entrepreneurship, and fine arts.
